What is Flash?
FLASH is a language that was originally developed as a way to get animations onto the internet with very small file sizes. However, the language has been developed extensively over recent years and has become the first choice for interactivity within web sites. Flash's popularity has increased largely because the software required to display Flash files has been incorporated into Internet Explorer for several years. Anybody visiting a Flash-based site that doesn't have the player installed is automatically asked if they would like to download it. This only takes a couple of minutes on a standard connection. Approximately 95% of computers are able to view Flash content without having to download any extra software. Entire web sites can be created in Flash, or Flash animations can be added to a standard web page.
What is HTML?
HTML (HyperText Markup Language) is the web's original and most popular format. All web sites use some HTML so that your web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari etc.) can display the page. The language has developed over the years and 'HTML5' is fast becoming the standard for web site coding.
What do Domain hosting, Registration and Server mean?
Domain Hosting refers to the web space where all the files of your web site reside. This space is usually 'rented' (very large companies sometimes purchase their own server on which to store and administer their site). Put simply, a server is a computer that is accessible for almost 24 hours a day - 7 days a week (less time for server maintenance) that has all the files required to display your web site. Whenever anybody views your web site they will be retrieving the information from the server. Domain registration is the act of 'renting' your web address (URL). I.e. www.yourcompany.com. This is typically renewed every 12 or 24 months.
What is a URL?
URL stands for Universal Resource Locator. This is a web site's address, e.g. www.nonamenoslogan.co.uk . This is also referred to as a Domain name.
